Built in 1993, the America West Arena is one of the premier facilities for sports and entertainment in all of Arizona and bears the proud crest of a Phoenix Point of Pride. Originally sponsored by America West, this arena has now been renamed as the US Airways Center, in view of the carrier's merger with US Airways.
Popularly hailed by monikers such as the 'Purple Palace' and 'The Snake Pit' which vary with the seasons as well as the teams this arena is host to, the US Airways Center has also served as home ground to the Phoenix Suns, who have gone on to gain NBA acclaim, the Arizona Rattlers as well as Phoenix Mercury. The arena boasts of a capacity to seat an audience of 18,422 and has welcomed cheering crowds over the years to Arena Bowl games, the NBA All-Star in 1995 and even the WNBA finals in the year 1998.
