Phoenix Weather Information

Phoenix is known as one of the warmest major cities in the world. The temperatures reach 100 degrees or more on average of 89 days per year. March is the rainiest month of the year, but occasional thunderstorms are common throughout the year. Snowfall, however, is a rare occurrence in the Phoenix area thus making it a mecca for golfers and nature lovers during the winter. Due to incidence of very warm temperatures for a majority of the year, it is very important to bring sunscreen and stay hydrated, especially in the summer months; but winter skin protection is important as well.

Phoenix in Summer

Summers in Phoenix are hot with daily highs around 100. Lows are in the mid 70s to low 80s. The drier air at the beginning of the summer season makes the high temperatures more bearable. However, the monsoon season of July through September brings much more humidity to the heat due to increased chances for thunderstorms. It is extremely important to bring sunscreen and drink plenty of water.  Light, loose fitting clothing and an umbrella are in order this time of year.

Phoenix in Spring

Highs for Phoenix in the spring range from the mid 80s in the early part of spring to the near 100 in early June. Lows for the springtime in Phoenix vary from the high 50s to the mid 70s. The months from April to June see the lowest amount of rainfall of the entire year. Pack short-sleeved shirts and shorts, and maybe a light jacket for the cooler evenings.

Phoenix in Fall

Due to lingering storms from the monsoon season, autumn in Phoenix can be quite humid with daily highs continuing in the 90s in late September and falling to the mid sixties in December. Lows for the fall season can dip into the low 50s and upper 40s. Visitors can still expect the occasional thunderstorm, but average rainfall each month is less than one inch. Pretty much anything goes as far as clothing is concerned during the fall based on personal preference. It is wise to bring a light jacket for the chilly evenings, however.

Phoenix in Winter

Phoenix winters are quite mild and attract many visitors. High temperatures hover around 65 degrees during the day, with cooler temperatures at night. Rainfall continues at less than one inch on average each month until March arrives as the rainiest month of the year with slightly over one inch of precipitation on average. Snow is extremely rare even in the winter months. Due to the cooler temperatures at night, you'll want to bring along a jacket and pants. However, like the fall, attire for daytime is left to personal preference.
