Henry Francis Pont was a horticulturist and enthusiastic collector of antiques. Winterthur was designed by Henry with the help of his father, Henry Algernon du Pont, in the early part of the 20th century. However, when they designed Winterthur, they used the spirit and style of the European country homes of the 18th and 19th century. This elite style still exists in Winterthur today guests feel as if they've taken a step back into the past.
