Dedicated to the sculptor par excellence, Auguste Rodin, the Rodin Museum was established in 1929.
Brainchild of Jules E. Mastbaum, who began collecting works by Rodin in 1923, the museum today, houses well over 124 of Rodin's most acclaimed works, which include bronze casts of 'The Thinker' and 'Eternal Springtime'. Visitors can also view Rodin's Sketchbook, which is now called the Mastbaum Album in the memory of its former owner, and is regarded by art historians to be the most complete record of the legendary sculptor's early draftsmanship. You can browse through this sketchbook via the Interactive Kiosk at the Main Entrance Hall and witness Rodin's mastery and understanding of art, even before he etched his first sculpture.
Every bit as spectacular as the immense collection the museum houses is the garden, which was originally designed by the renowned Jacques Gréber as an extension of the serenity and tranquil that the museum embodies. The Rodin Museum also conducts free guided tours at 1 pm, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, while also the first and third Saturdays of every month. Admission is charged at $3 per person and visitors are welcomed from 10 am to 5 pm, Tuesday through Sunday.
While museum authorities to permit handheld cameras, the use of flashes, strobes and tripods is not allowed inside the museum premises.
