Home of the Liberty Bell, birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution, Independence Historical National Park is where you want to go to explore our nation's roots.
Often referred to as the birthplace of our nation, Independence Historical National Park is a great place to visit while vacationing in the Philadelphia area.
Located downtown, in the heart of the city, Independence National Historical Park is home to the Liberty Bell, an international symbol of freedom, and Independence Hall, a World Heritage site, where the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were created. From 1790-1800 Philadelphia Pennsylvania was the capitol of the United States, the park interprets the diverse population, events, and the lives of those times. The park spans around 45 acres of the land and has about 20 buildings that are open to the public. A section of the park was once where Benjamin Franklin's home stood. That part of the park is dedicated to teaching about Benjamin Franklin, his life, and his accomplishments.
The park host a variety of hands-on activities for the children, including digging for artifacts, constructing your own 18th Century journal, or learning to play an instrument called a glass armonica. Also, they have a Junior Ranger Program that lets your ranger learn the story of the American Revolution by collecting stamps found at park sites to put in your Revolutionary Ranger Activities Book available at the Independence Visitor Center.
