Awater Kent Museum in Philadelphia, PA
The Atwater Kent Museum in Philadelphia, PA is the perfect way to learn a little bit about how Philadelphia has shaped this country's history. After all, many men throughout early American History have shaped all of our lives. You will learn more about William Penn, for which the state Pennsylvania is named. Benjamin Franklin is another notable fellow who meant a great deal to this country.
Perfectly located in very close proximity to both Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, the Atwater Kent Museum is like the gatekeeper to the best of history about the city. It is, in fact, the official museum for Philadelphia history. As a whole, you will learn about some of the most defining moments in history that happened right in the city and children will have plenty of hands-on experience with some of the exhibits to reinforce their history "lessons" they have learned during their tour.
There are many historical artifacts on display as well as various themed exhibitions like one on Norman Rockwell or the history of radio. You can visit Wednesday through Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. as well as inquire about special group tours during off times. The Atwater Kent Museum is a great place for kids to learn about our nation's history without it seeming like they are learning! In other words, it is a fun museum for kids as well as the entire family. There are nominal admissions fees - $5 for adults and children 13-17 and seniors are $3; and children 12 and under are free. That is quite a deal for such an awesome museum experience.
