Amstel House near Philadelphia, PA

When it comes to the town of New Castle, Delaware (which is near Philadelphia, PA), there are many wonderful and beautiful things for people to see and learn; especially when it comes to the architecture of the buildings and homes!

One of the oldest and known about houses in New Castle is the Amstel House.  The Amstel house was built in 1730 by Dr. John Finney (who was the towns' richest landowner).  Even today, the Amstel House is known to be a very elegant house; for being as old as it is (277 years old).  In fact, it is one of few Georgian mansions and buildings that are still left standing/surviving.  As for the beauty of the home, is that it is supposed to represent a Georgian town garden. 

As for the construction of the house, it is an early colonial building that is made of brick.  Once inside the home, you will see the real beauty!  In fact, some of the things that you will see are some of the original woodwork, an open hearth, architectural details on many things and also early fanlight (which was one of the first homes to use this feature). 

When it comes to the history inside the home, many important and memorable things happened in the Amstel House.  In fact, a governor lived in the home, George Washington attended a wedding in the parlor of the home and some of the signers of the Declaration of Independence stopped in at the home. 

If you are wishing to visit the Amstel House, it is now open to the public; however, it is only open from April through December.  No matter when you go, you will thoroughly enjoy yourself!
