Sharing the Heritage at African American Museum of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, PA
On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day every January, the African-American Museum of Philadelphia holds its "Sharing the Heritage" day, where people with the day off from work are encouraged to participate in volunteer projects that benefit the city's African-American communities. Past volunteer projects have included delivering meals to the homeless, playing games or doing arts and crafts with youth groups, and working with local organizations on fundraising campaigns. The all-day celebration of service also includes a talk by a guest speaker and performances by local church, youth, and African ensembles.
