Exhibition Opening for Charles Allmond: Second Natureb at American Swedish Historical Society in Philadelphia, PA

From March through July 2008, the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania hosted a sculpture exhibit by Charles Allmond entitled "Second Nature." The Swedish-American Allmond lives in Delaware and sculpts wildlife scenes and abstract figures out of stone, bronze, and wood. His sculptures are at once abstract but recognizable, with animals being his main choice of subject. A prior avian sculpture collection of his was shown at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm, and his work exemplifies the characteristics valued in Swedish art and design: simplicity, quality craftsmanship, and economy.

The American Swedish Historical Museum contains 12 permanent galleries that educate about and promote Swedish and Swedish-American culture, art, and history. The museum also contains one gallery that hosts temporary exhibits. Founded in 1926, the museum is the United States' premier institution for the recognition of Swedish-American contributions to art, history, architecture, science, music and technology. Please contact the museum directly for information on admission prices and current exhibits.
