Annual Landscape Design Symposium at Morris Arboretum of the University in Philadelphia, PA

For over 20 years, the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has hosted the Winter Landscape Design Symposium, a two-day conference for landscape designers all over the country. The conference features panels, workshops, and events that cover hot topics in landscape design, including use of native plants, land reclamation, and sustainable/green practices. The symposium is sometimes held at nearby Villanova University rather than at the arboretum itself. There is a registration fee for the event, with special discounts for students and members of professional associations.

The Morris Arboretum is part of the University of Pennsylvania and is the official arboretum of Pennsylvania. The arboretum was started in 1880 by John and Lydia Morris, who were interested in growing plants from around the world. Many of the plants now seen at the arboretum are from original plantings that are now 100+ years old. The arboretum contains more than 2,500 species of plants and over 13,000 plants in all. The plant collections are native to North America, Europe, and Asia, with the Asian collection being particularly extensive and impressive. The Morris Arboretum is open every day except for major holidays, and there is a small admission fee to enter.
