Philadelphia, PA Weather Info

No matter what the season, Philadelphia offers all types of activities and sights to see, from sports and recreation to history and culture. Visitors to this historic town find fun and excitement in each of Philadelphia's four distinct seasons.

Summer in Philadelphia

Summer in Philly is warm, with highs in the mid 81 and lows in the mid 60s. Visitors should be sure to pack shorts and short-sleeved shirts, as well as some rain gear: July is not only the warmest month of the year, it's also the wettest! Summer activities abound, including hiking, biking, horseback riding and picnicking at one of the nearby parks. Ridley Creek State Park and John Heune National Wildlife Refuge are two great places to enjoy summer recreation!

Fall in Philadelphia

Fall brings cooler temperatures and the changing of the leaves on the trees. Highs range from the mid 50s to the upper 70s, and overnight lows can fall into the lower 40s. Fall visitors will need to bring some long pants, a few long-sleeved tops, and a light jacket or coat for cool evenings. October is the driest month of the year, and features nearly perfect weather, from a traveler's standpoint. Fall is also the time of year for lots of local events and festivals like Eastern State Penitentiary's Terror Behind the Walls in October.

Winter in Philadelphia

As winter arrives in Philadelphia, so does the snow. This is the time of year to visit one of the nearby ski resorts (such as Spring Mountain, Bear Creek, or Blue Mountain) to take advantage of all the powder! Daytime highs are in the upper 30s and lower 40s while nighttime lows are right around freezing. January is the coolest month of the year. Other activities in winter include winter events and concerts, such as the Candle Light Tour at the Peter Wentz Farmstead in December, as well as Colonial Holiday and Vienna Boys Choir performances at the Kimmel Center. Winter visitors should pack plenty of warm layers, like long pants and coats, and especially socks, long-sleeved shirts and sweaters.

Spring in Philadelphia

The spring thaw in Philly brings some glorious days: highs begin in the 50s, but climb in later spring to the lower 70s. Overnight lows are in the mid 30s in March, but by May are in the mid 50s. This is a good time of year to enjoy golf, as well as many outdoor activities in Philadelphia's city parks. Welcome Day is a fun, free street fair held in Newtown each May. Spring visitors will be comfortable in long pants and short sleeves on the warmest days, but will want to bring along some long-sleeved tops, as well as a jacket or lightweight coat.
