Come to Palm Springs in California where there is more than the weather to keep visitors happy. There is plenty to see in this part of the world and if you feel like a trip back in time to the thirties and forties then you should visit Ruddy's General Store Museum. The store is located on the Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.
Roddy's General Store Museum offers a nostalgic experience of past treasures in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. The store museum is an authentically created replica of a general store of the nineteen thirties and forties. If you're old enough to remember sarsaparilla, fly ribbons and mazda lamps then you will relish this trip down memory lane. If you are too young to known much about that period then enjoy the sensation of being in a less complicated era.
The museum was set up in 1983 by Jim Ruddy who decided to display the collection of general store marchandise that he had collected over a thirty five year period in a museum that he had purchased for that purpose. The museum was previously owned by a liquidator who had kept some of the best store fixtures and merchandise in his basement for more than forty years. Ruddy's general store is unusual in that it has the finest display of unused merchandise in the country. The original stock of merchandise fills the display shelves of the period. Visitors young and old are encouraged to bring a camera when they visit the museum as a memento of their visit to this unusual store.
