Johannes Restaurant in Palm Springs is an intimate restaurant serving an interesting fusion of Austrian and Asian-influenced dishes. The restaurant, seating just 18 guests, has modern and minimalist decor with white chairs and tablecloths set against bright yellow walls, and featuring select pieces of artwork. There is an outside dining area, and the restaurants has an open kitchen so diners can see the chefs in action.
The menu has a cosmopolitan feel and appetizers include curried lump crab, grilled stuffed quail and roasted beets with goats cheese. If you're find it difficult to choose try the Appetizer Quartette featuring four taster dishes. Entrees include Joannes' signature Wiener Schnitzel served with roasted potatoes and cranberries, the cinnamon smoked and spiced duck breast and beef tenderloin with mascarpone mash potatoes and a Madagascan green peppercorn sauce. There is a fine selection of desserts featuring a new twist on some Austrian favorites.
The restaurant has a well-stocked wine cellar with a great selection of white and red wines by the glass and the bottle, plus great imported and specialty beers. Try one of the cosmopolitan coffees including the Italian coffee with a dash of Amaretto and Frangelico, the Irish with single malt Bushmill's whiskey, and the Jamaican - with Myers dark rum and Tia Maria. The martini and cocktails list include the apple strudel with apple and cinnamon Snapps, crème de cacao and cream, or the Raspberry Tart with Bacardi and raspberry syrup.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5.00pm to 10.30pm. Reservations are highly recommended.
