Palm Springs, a desert community, east of Los Angeles is home to many people who once served or are still actively serving in the military. Only one hour from 29 Palms airbase, Palm Springs brings a much more special meaning to honoring veterans each year at the the annual Veterans' Day Parade. Veterans, active soldiers and civilians are all invited to attend the parade each year to pay homage to those who have served in wars throughout history. The November holiday lands when temperatures in Palm Springs are calming down, and many times, the experience can be quite pleasant.

Starting in 1996, a new theme each year is coined, commemorating those that have served in the armed forces of current and previous conflicts. The parade marches through town with a route staying in the vicinity of the Civic Center Park. The festivities happening for Veteran's Day will be happening in the Civic Center Park with everything dedicated to veterans. In previous events, two stealth F-117 airplanes have flown over the crowd of 20,000 people crowding the streets. There is not an admission fee to any of the shows during the Veterans' Day celebration, but sights in the sky and on the ground are typical each year.

The shorter days of fall make this holiday a leisurely family event with the parade usually starting in the mid-afternoon. The parade typically lasts about one hour and is followed by a celebration concert on the stage in the Civic Center Park immediately after. At dusk, a fireworks show over the park conclude the Palm Springs Veterans' Day Celebration.
