Getting In & Around Palm Springs, CA

ARRIVING IN PALM SPRINGS:

By Air
Palm Springs International Airport (airport code: PSP) serves Palm Springs and the rest of the southern desert region of California, and is served by commercial airlines including Alaska, American/American Eagle, America West Express, Continental, Northwest, and United. Palm Springs International Airport is located just two miles from downtown Palm Springs, which makes arrivals and departures quick and easy. Ground transportation connections between the airport and Palm Springs include buses (Sun Bus shuttle or Greyhound commercial bus lines), taxis, rental cars (take East Tahquitz Canyon Way heading west to get to Palm Springs), and hotel shuttle vans. A second airport option for Palm Springs visitors is Ontario International Airport (airport code: ONT), located off of Interstate 10 in Ontario, CA, just 65 miles west of Palm Springs.

By Car
Visitors coming from Los Angeles should take the San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10) east to Highway 111; the drive is approximately two hours from L.A. From San Diego, three hours from Palm Springs, take Interstate 15 north, and then connect with the Pomona Freeway (Highway 60); then take the San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10) east to Highway 111.

By Bus
Greyhound Bus makes stops at the Palm Springs Depot, at 311 North Indian Canyon Drive.

By Train
The Amtrak Sunset Limited provides service between Florida and Los Angeles, and makes stops in both Palm Springs and Indio.

GETTING AROUND PALM SPRINGS:

By Car
Having a car, whether your own or a rental, is the best way to get around the Palm Springs and the and corridor of resorts along Interstate 10. Roads in the area are modern and well-maintained, but visitors going to Joshua Tree National Park may need a four-wheel drive vehicle for back-road driving in the desert. The California traffic hotline is 800-427-7623; for Southern California traffic news, call 213-628-7623. Car rentals in Palm Springs begin at $35 a day, or $150 a week. To rent a car, the driver must be 21 years old.

By Bus
Visitors can take SunBus (operated by Sunline Transit Agency), which serves the Coachella Valley, including Hot Springs to Mecca. Regular fares are $1.00, with transfers for 25'. Senior and disabled fares are 50', and children 5 years and under ride free with an adult.
