The residence of the Canadian Prime Minister is in a beautiful mansion at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa and overlooks the Ottawa River. The Prime Minister's residence is a lot more private than many official residences such as the American White House; home to the President of the United States. There are no guided tours around the Prime Minister's residence and it is not open for public viewing.
Many of the functions of government that take place in many first minister's homes are located in other places in Canada; which is one of the reasons why the Prime Minister has more privacy than many other heads of state. The Prime Minister's official office which is where much of his day to day tasks and meetings take place is situated in the Langevin Building on Wellington. When the Canadian Government hosts meetings for members of foriegn governments they are often accommodated at the Governor General's Palace which is situated in Ridaux Hall and is just across the way from the prime minsiter's private residence at 24 Sussex Drive.
In addition to the greater privacy at home of the Canadian Prime Minister the office holder also exercises greater power than the President in America this is because the President's powers are limited by the votes and actions of Congress. That is not to say that the Canadian Prime Minister is not accountable for the decisions that are made as he has answer questions put to him in parliament on an almost daily basis.
