Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario

As the name may suggest; Parliament Hill is the seat of Canada's democratic process. On Parliament Hill the future of Canada and Her people are decided. Parliament Hill is also home to a great tourist opportunity.

Located in downtown Ottawa and on the Ottawa River; Parliament Hill is a scenic area with its gothic architecture and opulent display of buildings and landscapes. There are three main buildings of Parliament Hill. The best known and recognizable is the Centre Block. The Centre Block is home to the chambers for the House of Commons and Senate. The iconic Peace Tower commemorates the end of the First World War. Visitors can climb to the top for a spectacular view of the surrounding landscapes.  The East Block has been restored to look the same as it did in the time of the Confederation and has reenactments with historical characters. The West Block holds many important offices and is, unfortunately, closed to the public for the sake of safety and security.

Visitors to Parliament Hill can also stroll freely on the grounds where they may encounter characters from Canada's past. Any questions can be directed to the several knowledgeable tour guides. During the months of June through August the Changing of the Guard Ceremony can be witnessed daily. This is a great tradition involving drills, bands, pomp, and regalia. Visitors that have never before seen this Ceremony will absolutely love it.

Parliament Hill was built during the early 1900s and still maintains much of its Victorian charms. With the amazing Gothic architecture and the mere size of the grounds, Parliament Hill is a place of both political interest and intense beauty. Watch sessions of Parliament or stroll the grounds; the Hill is loved by both locals and tourists.
