The remarkable beauty of the University of South Florida's Botanical Gardens makes it a popular destination in Tampa, Florida.& The Gardens consist of 7 acres of developed gardens connected to many more acres of green area.
The planned gardens contain over 3,000 species of plants and habitats. The gardens are well designed and divided into different areas. Visitors can visit the wetland forest, the fruit orchard, the temperate forest, the flowering trees, the butterfly garden, an area of Florida natives, the herb garden, the palms, the sandhill, the bromeliads, the rainforest, the shade garden, the carnivorous plants, the cactus & succulents, bamboo, grasses and more.
The Botanical Gardens hosts many special events throughout the year. Many of the events are related to gardening and some also include crafts, such as quilting, and music. The Plant Festivals are a popular place to purchase rare plants. The exquisite gardens make a unique and lovely location for a wedding or other special event.
The Botanical Gardens were established in 1969 and used primarily by students and faculty of the University of South Florida. In the 1990s, the gardens grew tremendously. Today, the gardens have much to teach visitors about many different plants.
The Botanical Gardens are open daily and admission is free except during Plant Festivals. The gardens are supported largely by donations and any donation is welcome.
