When you're vacationing, especially with children, fun activities are going to be on the itinerary. If you're traveling to Florida for your vacation, there's a lot of fun activities to do and places to see. Miami Metro Zoo is one place you won't want to miss. With the long history behind the Miami Metro Zoo, there's a lot to see. Miami Metro Zoo was started on a small island off the Miami coast. Originally called Crandon Park Zoo on Key Biscayne, it started with one goat, three monkeys and two black bears all purchased from a small stranded road show for $270. By 1967, it had expanded to over 1,200 animals, making it ranked on the top 25 zoos in the United States. Through the years additions of Asian elephants, a white tiger, a pair of Indian rhinos and Key deer made it an extremely large and interesting zoo. With the destruction of Hurricane Betsy in 1965, many animals were killed along with mass destruction to the zoo. The reconstruction involved finding a new location with more space-600 acres more. Today, it is larger and better than ever with koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, Asian otters, clouded leopards, fly-river turtles, ostrich, giraffes and gazelles.
The entire zoo today is over 740 acres and, if walked, would be three miles long. The Miami Metro Zoo has many fun activities and events going on daily for children including a feeding zoo to hand feed the giraffes, a motorcycle ride around the zoo and checking out the largest traveling exhibit.
Feast with the Beasts is an activity that they have periodically where over 40 restaurants bring their culinary delights for the guests to munch on as they stroll through the large zoo. Many families book the zoo for private events and parties. It's always a good time for all.
