Established in 1942, the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art was founded by Jeannette Genius McKean and is dedicated to showcasing the diversity and eclecticism in American Arts and Crafts, while also encouraging up and coming talent by showcasing their works on a reputed platform.<
Today, the Museum houses, what has come to be known as the largest and most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, many of which have been sourced by the McKeans themselves. Some of the works displayed at the Morse Museum included the legendary leaded-glass windows, glass buttons crafted by the nimble hands of Tiffany himself, mosaics and other furnishings which he designed during the course of his long and illustrious career. The Museum also exhibits works from Tiffany Studios, many of which were supervised by Tiffany himself, which include the famed 'Oyster Bay Window' from his Long Island estate.
Art enthusiasts will also delight in the other collections on display at the Morse Museum which include exquisite jewelry and silver works by artists like Emile Gallé and Carl Faberge. Other noteworthy exhibits include leaded glass windows by William Morris, Frank Lloyd Wright and Arthur Nash to name a few, while also a selection of American fine art which features works by Thomas Doughty, Cecilia Beaux and Samuel Coleman.
The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art also conducts a number of special temporary exhibitions from time to time, to introduce visitors to a more diverse and broader spectrum of media; while the exhaustive range of programs and events allows participants access to lectures and workshops conducted by some of the most noteworthy names in the modern-day art world.
