Orlando Carnival: A Caribbean-style Mardi Gras
This May, from the 24th to the 26th, let your hair down at The Orlando Carnival, a Mardi Gras style party, but with a Caribbean twist!!! The Orlando Carnival is one breathtaking weekend of crazy fun and is hosted at The Orlando Tinker Field, Florida. Band parades, noise and lots of fun with all-night parties, is what the Orlando Carnival is all about. Memorial Day weekend was never this much fun. The festival began as a celebration of the coming of the Lenten period, it is also recognized as a celebration of the wonderful Caribbean culture. In 2008, the Carnival will feature various music genres like Reggae, Calypso, Soca and Hip-Hop, amongst others. Many famous artists will perform during Friday & Saturday in the festival. Some of the popular artists, set to make an appearance are Machel Montano, Traffix, Shurwayne Wincester, Red Hot Flames and Dungko, who will perform with many others, to entertain the crowd and give them a taste of sizzling Caribbean music. Caribbean culture is extremely rich and vibrant and a fact which is played up by a parade of bands as well as a kiddie parade. The world famous "Steel Bands" from the Caribbean will treat visitors to some traditional tunes from the exotic islands. And just when you begin to feel that the party's over, they turn it into an all night gala, known as "J'ouvert". The party takes to the streets during the night and does not stop till early in the morning. When translated, "J'ouvert" means 'Open Day' or 'morning' and that is exactly till when, it will go on, with constant dancing, food and music. Celebrate this Memorial Day weekend with a Caribbean flavor to make it a party to remember.
