Kick Up Your Heels at the 114th Annual Silver Spurs Rodeo in Orlando

Who says the only popular animal in Orlando is a mouse? The Silver Spurs Rodeo proves this wrong with an amazing show starring bulls and broncos and talented performers who bring the show to life. It's a guaranteed hootin' and hollerin' good time.

The Silver Spurs Rodeo began more than 50 years ago in May of 1941 when the Silver Spurs Riding Club was formed. Since that time the rodeo has only gotten bigger and better. The club now boasts more than 350 members and a fantastic new arena located in Orlando, known as the Silver Spurs Arena. The new arena, part of the Osceola Heritage Park, features more than eight thousand indoor seats with climate control and 12 luxury skyboxes.

Each show features the best in rodeo events and will have you gasping, oohing and aahing. You'll find some of the best riders in the country here showcasing their talents in the following events.

  • Bareback Bronc Riding — A thrilling eight-second ride in which the rider is allowed to use only one hand to hold his rigging while spurring on a bucking bronco.
  • Barrel Racing — Riders race the clock as they maneuver around the arena in a cloverleaf pattern defined by 3 barrels.
  • Bull Riding — Bulls usually need no spurring to get them moving and this event shows it. For a heart-stopping eight seconds the rider must hang on for dear life to the bull rope with one hand competing for the best score.
  • Saddle Bronc Riding — Another breathtaking eight-second event, the rider must remain in the saddle with both feet in the stirrups for the duration while holding onto the bronc rein with only one hand.
  • Steer Wrestling — This event is also known as bulldogging and features a "hazer" to keep the steer in line and a cowboy on horseback who chases down the steer and takes it down by grabbing the horns and wrestling it to the ground.
  • Team Roping and Tie-Down Roping — These are both timed events which include either a two person team or a single cowboy. It begins with the chase of a calf and culminates in the lassoing and tying of the animal.
  • Mutton Bustin' — Nobody is left out of the fun at the Silver Spurs Rodeo, including the little cowboys and cowgirls. In this crowd favorite, the objective is to hang on and stay off the ground for 8 seconds as the sheep runs wildly through the arena.

Comfort Inn North
We liked the fact that the hotel had a swimming pool and a fitness room, but they were not available after 11PM. The receptionists and some other workers (except the housekeepers) looked very unhappy, they could always use some more courtesy.
