Orlando is located in central Florida, southwest of Daytona, northeast of St. Petersburg and directly east of Winter Garden. Orlando's main attractions are at the intersection of the Florida Turnpike and I-4.
ORLANDO DRIVING DIRECTIONS
- From the northeastern US, follow Interstate 95 south to Jacksonville, Florida, then proceed south on I-95 via the I-295 bypass. About 80 miles south of Jacksonville, just north of Daytona Beach, is the I-95 and Interstate 4 interchange. Take I-4 south for the 45 mile trip to Orlando. Remain on I-4 south through downtown Orlando for easy access to Disney World and Universal Studios.
- From Atlanta, take Interstate 75 south into Florida. Remain on I-75 for about 135 miles after crossing the Florida border to the Florida Turnpike interchange. Take the Florida Turnpike which passes through Orlando, bisecting I-4 southwest of the city. Disney World is off I-4 just south of the Florida Turnpike and I-4 interchange, Universal Studios is north of the same interchange off I-4. (Florida Turnpike is a toll road that ends in Miami.)
- From points west, (Tallahassee, Pensacola, Mobile and New Orleans) take Interstate10 east to the Interstate 75 south interchange towards Orlando. Remain on I-75 south for about 100 miles to the Florida Turnpike interchange. Take the Florida Turnpike which passes through Orlando, bisecting I-4 southwest of the city. Disney World is off I-4 just south of the Floridas Turnpike and I-4 interchange, Universal Studios is north of the same interchange off I-4. (Florida Turnpike is a toll road that ends in Miami.)
ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MCO)
- The local airport is the Orlando International Airport (MCO). The airport is clean and open and offers a monorail system to the various gates. Car rental is available on site and most transportation services will meet you in baggage.
- There is a smaller regional airport, Lakeland Linder Airport, located nearby as well.
MASS TRANSIT IN ORLANDO
- Lynx Bus. This is the regional transportation system. This very clean city bus system is also very reliable. You can purchase a 7-day pass for $10, so it is very affordable and the drivers are very friendly and helpful. The buses run on a regular schedule to most of the area attractions and shopping. Lynx also has its own stop in the Disney transportation hub.
- Disney Transit
. For transportation on Disney's property this is the way to go. Included in the price of your ticket, you may ride the buses or monorail anywhere within the park as much as you like. Disney is recognized as having the best transport system available with clean, reliable transportation.
- Central Florida Light Rail Transit. This high-speed rail service will allow you to visit other nearby attractions and towns faster and in a form of transport that is very environmentally friendly.
