Nothing says "Merry" quite like sunshine, mild weather, palm trees, and the ability to leave everyday life behind. Of course, Orlando celebrates the holidays in their typical grand fashion, complete with parades, lights, carols ... and even snow! Here are some special annual events and happenings in Orlando during the holiday season:
- Disney MGM Studios boasts over three million lights in their "Spectacle of Lights", from late November through early January.
- Dixie Stampede features racing elves and a nativity scene (with live camels) in their Christmas show, which runs from early November through New Year's Eve.
- Frolic in Frosty's 20-Ton Snow Playground at the city of Kissimmee's Holiday Extravaganza. This day-long arts and crafts festival has amusement rides, entertainment and a nighttime holiday street parade. The event typically occurs on the second Saturday in December, and is scheduled for Dec. 9.
- During the evening hours at the Magic Kingdom, join Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party for approximately three weeks in December. You'll find decorations, snow on Main Street, fireworks and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade. (A seperate ticket purchase may be required for this event.)
- Cypress Gardens Annual Poinsetta Festival/Garden of Lights takes place from late November through Early January. Over 400,000 lights, carolers, concerts and holiday scenes add festivity to over 40,000 blooms.
- At Universal's Islands of Adventure, you can celebrate Christmas with the Grinch at the Wholiday Whobilation of Grinchmas.
New Year's Eve celebrations can be found at all the theme parks, although you may need to purchase a separate ticket. And if the little one's can't quite make it to ring in the New Year, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort and the Radisson Resort Parkway offer babysitting services (extra charges may apply.)
