The Jacksonville Jaguars joined the National Football League as an entirely new team in 1995, along with the Carolina Panthers. These were the first two new NFL teams in almost twenty years. The Jaguars finished their inaugural season with a record of 4-12, a high number of wins for a new team which usually performs poorly. Their second year in the league, the Jaguars played in their first conference championship, and even though they lost to the Patriots 20-6, it was remarkable that such a young team would reach that level. The Jaguars' home field is Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, previously known as Alltel Stadium, conveniently located in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. Municipal Stadium opened the same day the brand new Jaguars team played its first game.
