When considering the location for your next holiday season vacation, Norfolk, Virginia may not be the first place that comes to mind. However, this New England town has made quite an effort to draw visitors to their historic city during the holiday time of year with a variety of shows, festivals and other events to help families to celebrate the holidays.
One of the attractions that has become a true favorite in the area is the Historic Holiday Trolley Tours. The tours take riders on a guided visit to Olde Towne, in Portsmouth. The city of Portsmouth and Norfolk are directly across from each other on the Elizabeth River, and passing between the two is simple, and worth it for this memorable holiday treat.
The trolley tours a narrated, story-filled tour of the area of Olde Town, where visitors will be charmed by the gracious homes and their elaborate holiday lights and decorations. The tour also features two special stops. The first is a tour of Trinity Episcopal Church, a historic church in Olde Town. Plus, the tour makes a stop at the beautiful, historic Hill House, with its English style architecture and four stories of grandeur.
The tours start in early to mid December, and continue until the end of December. Reservations are required, and ticket prices vary depending on the age of the visitor. Tours depart from the Visitor Information Center in Olde Town, Portsmouth, located at North Landing, 6 Crawford Parkway. Tickets are available at the center, too.
