Near Niagara Falls, on the Canada side, is Smithville, Ontario. A small agriculture town with one traffic light and various interesting festivals; Smithville is a great place to live or to visit.
Tourists often prefer to stay near the attraction they are visiting. Most times this means the small town and villages that are within an easy drive to the notable feature. Economically, this makes sense and for those that enjoy adventure and discovery, this also provides a great chance to see something new. Smithville is one of those out of the way towns that provide easy access to the Niagara Falls region.
Smithville is a great place to spend a relaxing day. The town's largest draw to fame is the annual Poultry Fest. This town is often referred to as "The Chicken Capital of Canada" and while the title seems eccentric it is given with just reason. The Poultry Fest features the chicken chariot race; though you will not find Charlton Heston in these chariots. These chariots are crafted and then driven by chickens for prizes, prestige, and honor. For this festival alone, a trip to Smithville is well worth it. Every Labour Day weekend Smithville holds an agricultural fair with attractions such as a demolition derby and the battle of the bands.
Smithville has every modern need and amenity that any resident or visitor could need. Doctors, department stores, and, of course, lodgings are available. While tourists will visit for a great out of the way place to stay while seeing the Niagara Falls; they will fall in love with the charm and quirks of Smithville.
