Niagara Falls Art Gallery in Niagara Falls, ON
Serving over 87,459 people, the Niagara Falls Art Gallery was founded in 1979. The gallery is part of the Niagara area with its exhibitions, including the Niagara Region Museums in Ontario, Canada, with additional participating museums including about 23 other museums/art museums in the area.
Housed in the gallery is the permanent collection of William Kurelek's Art, in addition to his personal papers and library. Kurelek was the son of Ukrainian immigrants, demonstrating an art talent at a very young age. Unfortunately, his father had old-world values and ridiculed the young boy, questioning the long-term values of the boy's artistic interests. After he converted to Catholicism in 1957, the artist overcame this emotional abuse as a child, eventually becoming a landscape painter and famous child book illustrator. The John Burtniak Niagara Collection is also a permanent part of the Niagara Falls Art Gallery, with John Burtniak himself recognized as one of the developers of the Niagara Collection. A collection of printed and original works are part of the Brock University Library's Special Collections, with his own work included that demonstrating the beauty of the Niagara Falls area.
Closed almost all holidays, the Niagara Falls Art Gallery has full and part-time staff available during the days, with summer hours from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday to Friday, and Saturday hours open from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Still open during the winter, the Monday to Friday hours are from 3:00 pm to 5:00, with Saturday and Sunday hours from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Donations are accepted for $4.00 per person.
