Located in what was once the statuesque home of the Western Block Company, on the banks of the historic Erie Canal, the Market Street Art Center is dedicated to promoting local up and coming talent with their friendly atmosphere and treasure trove of opportunities.
Of all the art on display at the Market Street Art Center, the most unusual is perhaps the structure itself, which has been painstakingly maintained to preserve its old factory feel. And thus, visitors are lead through the stone-walled structure, with the exposed pipes juxtaposed uncannily against the fine art exhibits. The Market Street Art Center encourages artwork in an array of media, with watercolors and oils, interspersed with photography, chainsaw sculptures and puppetry. The website even allows you to learn more about the extraordinary minds at work behind the beautiful collections showcased at the Center, which include names like Karl Heerdt and Joe Buczkowski.
Budding artists can even rent studio space at the Market Street Art Center, choosing from a number of alternatives as per their requirements and budget allowances. And once you have crafted your collection to perfection, you can go on to gather the laurels by exhibiting your talent at the galleries, with the Market Street Art Center even offering to promote your show with a press release in the local newspaper. The Center organizes a number of events and workshops from time to time to bring the local art community together, while also art classes for the artistically inclined to take their first plunge into the world of art!
The Market Street Art Center welcomes visitors from 10 am to 5 pm, all through the week. On your way out, don't forget to stop by at the Art and Soul Gift Shop to browse through artwork, jewelry, spiritual books and CDs as a souvenir of your visit.
