As one of the world's most beautiful and popular vacation destinations, you'll find that Niagara Falls, Ontario, is not just for Honeymooners! Horseshoe Falls, the portion of the waterfall on the Canadian side, boasts a rushing wall of water that crashes down a 170-foot drop to the lake below. It is also the largest producer of electrical power in the world! In addition to the breathtaking Falls themselves, Niagara Falls, Ontario houses a myriad of unique attractions, shows, tours and activities for all ages and personalities.

Attractions Related to the Falls

Most people who come to the Niagara Falls area head straight for the main attraction: the 12,000-year-old Falls themselves. There are several different ways to view the Falls on various tours and viewing structures.

  • The Maid of the Mist has been giving people a close-up view of the Falls since 1846; boats depart every half-hour and hooded raincoats are provided since visitors will most likely be misted! Be sure to bring a waterproof camera to get up-close shots of the Falls.
  • For those who prefer a bit more adventurous boat tour of the Falls, embark on a Wet Jet Whirlpool Boat tour, where splash suits and lifejackets are provided.
  • If a bird's-eye view of Niagara Falls is what you desire, catch a ride on a Fly Niagara 20-minute Cessna tour.
  • Or journey to the top of the Konica Minolta Tower, which stands 525 feet (52 meters) above the Falls, for a perfect indoor vantage point where visitors snap pictures through the specially enhanced glass. Then feast on a delicious lunch at Pinnacle Restaurant at the top of the tower, while your eyes feast on the view.
  • Lastly, Journey Behind the Falls leads you behind the waterfall itself, where you see the curtain of water rushing past you and thundering into the Lake below. For an all-inclusive tour of the Falls, its power plants, nearby parks and gardens, aviary and winery, opt for a Canadian Rainbow Tour, a 4-hour tour departing from the Hershey Store.

Niagara Falls Museums

Once you have explored Niagara Falls from every vantage point, you may prefer a change of pace at one of the area's several museums featuring strange and unusual exhibits and tours. Prepare to be amazed at the Ripley's Believe it or Not! Museum housing a collection of unusual artifacts, interactive displays, films and artifacts from Robert L. Ripley's adventures around the world. Here you can even watch a film of some famous attempts to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel! The Guinness Book of World Records Museum celebrates human achievements in all arenas, from competitive sports to eating contests. Learn interesting facts about human superlative efforts, as well see how you measure up to the tallest man in the world when you sit in his chair. Two more fun attractions include The Haunted House and the Fun House.

Niagara Falls Animal Attractions

In addition to these indoor-based attractions, Niagara Falls Ontario has several attractions that focus on wildlife and plants. For an all-day experience, visit Marineland Theme Park, which truly has everything in one place: rides, shows and sea- and land-animals await you. Other spots for animal-lovers include the Butterfly Conservatory and ZOOZ Nature Park in nearby Stevensville, Ontario.

Niagara Falls Theatre

If entertainment is what you crave, visit one of Niagara Falls shows. The Oh, Canada, eh? Show offers an insightful and humorous look at the colorful characters of Canada's history and folklore, all while you enjoy a delicious dinner. The Shaw Festival offers 800 theatrical performances yearly, and features plays by George Bernard Shaw and his colleagues.

Niagara Falls Hotels

At the end of your fun-filled days in Niagara Falls, rest and relax at one of the area's hotels or resorts. The Oakes Hotel Overlooking the Falls, a 4-star luxury hotel, is the closest hotel to the falls. For great views and great service when you're on a budget, stay at the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill, which also features views of the Falls. The recently expanded Americana Conference Resort & Spa is within walking distance of many attractions and showcases a full spa and beauty shop.

It was a great time for the kids and a great way for them to expend some energy from the long ride there, but it was a lot smaller than I anticipated.

The hotel and waterpark were wonderful. The only problem was the people in the room next to us. thier children were screaming and running all over the place very early in the morning.
