Exploring Historic Lockport

So you've seen the falls, done the tours, walked around Clifton Hill, perhaps even gone up into the Skylon Tower or gone deep into the waters on a Maid of the Mist tour--you've seen everything there is to see in Niagara, right?

What you may not know is that just twenty minutes away from the falls is located the town of Lockport, New York. A trip to Lockport makes for an excellent way to spend a day during your vacation. There are plenty of unique museums, tours, shops and restaurants to be found in within this town often overlooked by Niagara visitors.

Eerie Canal Discovery Center -- Learn more about the history and functioning of one of the world's most famous canals here. See a working replica of a canal lock and raise the water levels, or search for treasures in a rock-wall reproduced from Lockport geology. Or step into a recreation of an actual Eerie Canal packet boat and go for a ride into the past.

Lockport Palace Theatre -- The historic Palace Theatre features 1200 seats and a proscenium arch style space built in 1925. The theatre features lavish and beautiful decorations reminiscent of the early 1900's and it is typical to see a broad range of musicals, dramas and other performances at the Palace regularly.

The Transit Drive-In Theatre -- A great way to wind down the day. Come early to get good parking, play with the kids on the playground, shoot minature golf, eat dinner or enjoy the sunset before the film starts.

Market Street Art Center -- Home to 30 different artists' studios, several art galleries and a gift shop, this unique center is located in the 100 year old Western Block Company building.
