St Catharine's Museum provides you with an in depth look at the history and culture of St Catharine's, Ontario. You will find exhibits and displays on the industry of St Catharine's, including a history on the construction and use of the Welland Canal System. Outside, you can watch ships navigate their way through the locks in Welland Canal, and inside the museum you can learn more about the locks by watching a short, fifteen minute video. In addition to providing you information about the Welland Canal, the museum also covers the important role St Catharine's played in the Underground Railroad. There are a number of interesting exhibits, displays, photographs, and artifacts detailing the rich culture and legacy of African Canadians in the area, including how fugitive slaves followed the North Star to find freedom and traveled to and through St Catharine's in their quest. In addition to these permanent displays and exhibits, St Catharine's Museum also hosts a number temporary and traveling exhibits.
