Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace in New York City, NY
Our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt, was born and raised in New York City until he was 14 years of age.
Today, the house where he was and raised stands as a National Historic Site, and interesting sightseeing stop for those who follow the history of our nation's presidents. The house is located between Broadway and Park Avenue South with five period rooms, two museum galleries and a bookstore open to the public.
The original house that Theodore Roosevelt was born and grew up in is no longer around, having been demolished in 1916. In 1919 the land was purchased and a replica house was built with many of the original furnishings of the first house making their way back to their rightful home.
