The Hudson River runs through New York State and partly forms the boundary between New York and New Jersey. The river was named after Henry Hudson who was looking for a short cut to China, he thought he had found what he was looking for when he sailed into the New York Bay. He and his crew sailed about 150 miles up before realizing that this was not the passage he had hoped to find. Early European settlement centered around the river as it was a great source of transportation for goods. Today, the river continues to be an amazing resource to the area as it is one of the busiest waterways in the world. It also offers a route to the
Statue of Liberty,
Ellis Island, New York Harbor, and
Battery Park.
