The "crossroads between commerce and creativity," The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is a public institution with ties to private industry.
FIT's academic programs provide career preparation in more than 30 fields leading to Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Here you can study design, fabric styling, computer animation and interactive media, photography, illustration, and much more. The school opened in 1944 with just over 100 students; now there are over 10,000 students enrolled. Until 1953, the school was tuition-free. There is also a museum at FIT that is well-worth a visit. There you will find also has one of the world's most important collections of fashion and textiles, which the museum collects, conserves, documents, exhibits, and interprets for the purposes of education and inspiration.
