The community of Soho roughly stretches from Houston to Canal Street, between the Hudson River and Lafayette Street. Soho is premium turf, there isn't much left to develop, but the area has seen a few recent conversions. Young couples, wealthy singles, and ex-suburbanite empty-nesters long ago took over Soho.
As a result, just about every boutique on Madison Avenue has opened a downtown store, even Bloomingdale's is here. Within only a quarter of a square mile, SoHo has an estimated 250 art galleries, four museums, nearly 200 restaurants, and 100 stores. Crowds can be overwhelming on the weekends, but during the week, it's still wonderful place to visit.
Tribeca borders Soho and Lower Manhattan. Tribeca, which stands for the Triangle Below Canal, also became a hot destination, most notably for dining. Hip TriBeCa night spots include the Bubble Lounge and the Church Lounge in the Tribeca Grand Hotel.
