Bordered by Yonkers, Riverdale is a middle, upper-middle, and upper class residential neighborhood in the northwest Bronx. Geographically, this is the second highest neighborhood, next to Washington heights, and includes the sub-sections of Fieldston and Spuyten Duyvil. Riverdale is home to three private schools, two private catholic colleges, and John F. Kennedy High School.
Riverdale is home to mostly Irish American and Jewish communities and many of the area residents prefered to be separated from from the Bronx, although this is actually where they live. Therefore, they wrote their address as "Riverdale New York." Since then, the post office has started to recognize the address as an actual area and has accepted it to be so, giving them their own exclusive zip code. The mansions of Riverdale have been used in many movies, the most widely known being the "Corleone House" in The Godfather. Also, Many famous people live or have lived in this area, including John F. Kennedy, Willy Mays, Lou Gehrig, Mark Twain, and more.
