NoLIta, short for North of Little Italy, is a unique neighborhood setting just north of the cultural haven
Little Italy that houses a number of interesting sights for visitors of New York City to experience while venturing through the city. St. Patrick's Old Cathedral and the Puck Building are both within NoLIta, and offer and exceptional time of sightseeing. The St. Patrick's Old Cathedral used to be the site of New York City's Roman Cathedral, until such honors were transferred to the newly built
St. Patrick's Cathedral in 1879.
As for the feel of the neighborhood, it used to be considered part of Little Italy until many of the Italian immigrants started moving to other areas throughout the city and young professionals began covering the NoLIta streets with up scale dining, shopping and nightlife options. Aside from the shopping aspects of NoLIta, there are also various events and festivals held annually such as the San Gennaro Festival.
