The New Amsterdam Theatre has had a long history in New York City, and continues to provide first-class entertainment for visitors and locals of the area. Originally built in 1903, the New Amsterdam Theatre stunned the city with elaborate decorations and a wide variety of entertainment. After a long time of turbulence, which started during The Great Depression, the theatre transformed itself into a movie theater and remained as such all the way up into the 1980's.
In 1993 the Walt Disney Corporation came to the theatre's rescue, offering to completely restore the New Amsterdam to its former glory. In total, an estimated $34 million was spent in bringing out the original luster of the theatre, and it was worth every penny. Today the New Amsterdam Theatre once again entertains crowds in NYC with a variety of Broadway shows and special concerts.
