The Lightship "Frying Pan," known as one of New York's top one hundred places to party, is one of 13 lightships remaining of over 100 that were built. Lightships were used by the U.S. Coast Guard to mark the entrances to harbors, and were simply used as floating light houses. The Lighthouse "Frying Pan" was built in 1929, after guarding its namesake Frying Pan Shoals, which was close to Cape Fear, NC. The Lighthouse is now used as a destination for parties and celebrations.
