Soon after Michael Dorf found the home for his Knitting Factory on Houston Street, the club became a place for sounds that weren't jazz or rock, but somewhere in between. With performers like Cecil Taylor, Sonic Youth and Adrian Boyd helping them, they became successful quite quickly. They got a great review from the New York Times, stating that the Knitting Factory revised New York's downtown art scene single handedly in six months. The Knitting Factory Nightclub offered poetry, films, performances of art and dance in addition to the jazz and improvised music offered a little of everything for their audience. They're constantly looking for new talent to perform at their nightclub.
The Knitting Factory has moved to a new location where it consists of three levels. The basement offers the Old Office, which is a huge wine selection. Up above you'll find your choice of eighteen different kinds of draft beer. You'll get to listen to all varieties of music from Swedish rock to High-Fidelity rock or jazzy jazz. This past year the Knitting Factory signed and exclusive partnership with XMU to have their concerts recorded and available in their channel.
