Help support this museums mission in preserving Tibetan art that is in danger of disappearing. Explore over 1,200 pieces of Buddhist art from Tibet, Mongolia, and northern China. Some pieces date back as far as the fifteenth century. There are also artifacts from Nepal, India, Japan, and Thailand. This museum has become so well-known, that even the Dalai Lama, himself, has visited this tucked away museum.
The buildings themselves, are even works of art. One building, is made to look like a small Himalayan monastery, and the other building is the museum gift shop, administrative offices, and library. It's recommended to visit the museum on a nice day, so you'll be free to enjoy the museum's terraced meditation gardens. There are statues of Buddha, ponds full of lotus and koi, and Tibetan prayer flags are placed throughout the garden, as are vases. These vases are meant to symbolize hidden treasure, which is exactly what this museum is.
