The General Grant National Memorial is the resting place of the Union Commander during the Civil War and twice-elected President Ulysses S Grant. In 1866, Grant became the very first full General of the Armies, and later became the president of our nation from 1869 to 1877. The tomb of General Grant and Julia Dent Grant, his wife, can be found at the General Grant National Memorial.
The memorial itself is an impressive structure built of granite and marble, and stands as one of the largest mausoleums in America. From discovering the brilliant architecture of the mausoleum to paying respects to one of our nation's great generals and presidents, the General Grant National Memorial provides a number of reasons to find time to pay a visit while in New York City.
