Brooklyn Heights is a Manhattan neighborhood located on the more elite side of the river, and is considered to be one of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Bordered by the Queens Expressway, Atlantic Avenue, Court Street, and Cadman Plaza West, the development of the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood began after a ferry service started in 1814.
George Washington's troops once escaped the British and took refuge in this area after being defeated. After this, it came to be considered the first suburb in America, however, the Brooklyn Heights of today is much more than a suburb.
Brooklyn Heights boasts the greatest views of lower Manhattan, including fabulous nineteenth century brownstone mansions with high ceilings and fireplaces. There is a grand mix of different people who inhabit the area, including everyone from families to Wall Street Yuppies. It has become one of the most desirable neighborhoods for members of the Manhattan community to raise a family.
For the visitor or history buff, Brooklyn Heights has an abundance of "not to be missed" landmarks including St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church, Our Lady of Lebanon Church, The Brooklyn Historical Society, and Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims.
