The Amherst Museum will bring you back to the 19th century. You can find historic homes, churches and schoolhouses. The Amherst Museum is located outside on 35 acres and will give you a chance to view the Niagara Frontier way of life.
When visiting the historic homes, you will be able to take a tour through them and see how the people of the 19th century lived in this area. All of the homes are furnished decorated as they would have been in the century. You can walk into the churches and the one room school house to get more of a feeling of what it must have been like to live back then. They also have exhibits set up and art from the time period. Some of the art will give you a detailed look of what exactly the area looked like in history.
The museum also holds many programs and events. Every year they have a Scottish Festival which honors the Scottish heritage and includes activities that are popular in Scotland. You can also bring your children to events catered just for them like Halloween trick or treating, a safe and fun place to enjoy this tradition. They also have day camps available. Events take place often like Victorian Tea, Family Holiday Party and Museum Book Club, The Falls. For more information about some of the events or programs you can visit their website at www.amherstmuseum.org. The museum is open year round but closed on major holidays. They are open Tuesday through Friday 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM and Saturany to Sunday 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
