Story Sunday Special: Under New York at South Street Seaport Museum in New York City

During summer Sundays at the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City, kids can visit to learn about certain historical and exciting stories in NYC's history. Experienced and knowledgeable museum guides lead these "Story Sunday" events, which describe various New York eras through books, photos, videos, and even special trips aboard one of the museum's many working ships.  One past Story Sunday focused on NYC's history with pirates, while another explored all the things going on underneath NYC, including details about the subways, the sewers, and the rivers surrounding Manhattan.

The South Street Seaport museum has been named by Congress as America's National Maritime Museum, and contains thousands of artifacts that document New York's maritime history. The museum also owns several boats from various eras, some of which routinely take visitors out on the rivers for educational trips and exhibits. Some boats can even be privately chartered for events or for a private historical or biological tour. Group and school tours can be arranged as well.  Hours at the museum vary depending on the season, and boat trips depend on the weather. Please call the museum directly to find out about current hours and exhibits.
