Touted as "the world's largest fireworks display",
Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular has grown to be an American symbol of Independence Day. Every year
Macy's Department Stores provides tens of thousands of aerial shells and other fireworks to help the city of New York City celebrate the Fourth of July in spectacular fashion. Multiple barges take to the East River to shoot off the fireworks, providing a variety of vantage points throughout New York City.
A few of the more popular viewing areas for this special event include Greenpoint, Hunter's Point and boats in the East River, south of Williamsburg Bridge and north of the southern tip of Roosevelt Island. Along with the fireworks, the New York Fire Department usually adds to the festivities by blasting colored water into the air with fire boats.
