Guided Tours of Yale University Art Gallery, near New York

The Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut, is an extraordinary university facility that is open to the public.

This museum houses an ample permanent collection of African, American, European and Asian art, and hosts various traveling exhibitions during the year. Exhibitions tend to be ones that raise academic questions about art history or art conservation, and the gallery is used to educate undergrad and graduate art students at Yale.  Because the gallery is an academic facility, there are detailed archives available, as well as rooms where one can study ancient coins, drawings, or furniture.

Because this gallery hosts so many types of art that all imply academic meaning, a visiting group would truly benefit from scheduling a group tour. The gallery has its own dedicated Education Department which hosts both school and adult groups. To register a group for a guided or self-guided tour, you can visit the Yale University Art Gallery web site and download a brochure with more information.  New Haven is located about 2 hours from New York and about 2.5 hours from Boston (by car or train from either city.)
