Street Fairs, Festivals, Events, and Hotels in New York City

What could be more exciting than a trip to fabulous New York City? Why a trip to one of the myriad New York City Street Fairs, of course! One of the numerous traditions of the Big Apple is the street fairs that are held from spring until fall throughout the city. Usually sponsored by neighborhood block associations and considered by many as the New Yorker's version of a garage sale, these fairs range in size from the small side street variety to huge fairs up to a mile in length!

Shopping at the Fair:

Bargains are the rule at these fairs. Whether you are looking for clothing, jewelry, household goods, cosmetics, or vintage magazines, you can find it here at a great price. While wandering through the vendors, you can enjoy the street performers who offer everything from blues to South American music to magic and more. For the children there are face painting and clowns, and there's food galore for the whole family! And one of the best things about street fairs is that you can end up buying something fun and frivolous. Fool your friends and family by getting a magnetic nose or belly button ring. You can even get a tattoo — a temporary one, of course!

Some of the most popular Street Fairs are:

  • The Great 4th of July Festival on Water Street from Fulton to Moore Street; the Sixth Avenue Summer Festival on Avenue of the Americas from 23rd to 33rd Street; and the USO / Avenue of the Americas Summer Festival on 6th Avenue from 42nd to 57th Street, all held in July.
  • Festival of the Americas in August is on Avenue of the Americas from 42nd - 57th St., as well as the Manhattan Youth Fair on Fulton St. from Broadway to Gold St. and the Madison Avenue Summer Festival on Madison Avenue from 42nd - 57th Street.
  • NYC Octoberfest: An annual fair, usually held the end of September on Lexington Avenue from 42nd to 57th Street.
  • Columbus Day Festival:   Another annual fair, held mid-October on Broadway from Battery Place to Fulton St. & Whitehall St. from Water to Stone Street.
    Lodging:

Now that you're done exploring the streets of the city, you'll need a place to rest your weary head, so check out some of these great places.

Wherever you stay, and whenever you go, the Big Apple, New York City is sure to fulfill all your vacation dreams
