You start at the corner of 49th Street and Rockefeller Plaza, across the street from Studio 1A, home of the Today Show, for a behind the scenes look at the daily operations of a live broadcast.

The Rockefeller Center is one of the more notable attractions in New York City. This massive complex is comprised of nineteen buildings spanning eleven acres in a premier midtown Manhattan location. The majority of the buildings were constructed in the 1930s with a signature Art Deco-style architecture. Rockefeller Center has been featured on numerous movies and television shows and carries with it an iconic and historic status. The complex was built by the prestigious Rockefeller family and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.

The Rockefeller Center is home to many unique structures and landmarks that have gained prominence in their own right. One of the most noteworthy attractions in the area is the outdoor cafe that is transformed into a popular ice skating rink in the winter, making the area a popular hangout in all seasons.

NBC's studios and offices are also located in Rockefeller Center in the historic RCA Building, now known as the GE Building. From this location, NBC brings you some of the best shows on TV. If you plan your visit to Rockefeller Center in advance, you may be able to watch first-hand as one of your favorite NBC shows is taped.

In front of the GE Building is the famous Rockefeller Plaza, where there annual Christmas tree is displayed so prominently. This famous tree lights up the area in a grand and festive way and is among the most famous Christmas trees in the world. In this plaza, you will also find famous sculptures on display, specifically Prometheus and Atlas. Numerous other lesser known but equally as beautiful works of art are on public display here as well, making it the perfect destination for art enthusiasts to enjoy great art without paying museum admission fees.

For a different perspective on Rockefeller Center as well as the entire city, head up to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at the top of the GE Building. From the observation deck, you can enjoy breathtaking, 360-degree views of the city, including views of Central Park, Times Square, the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty, and other landmarks of the city. Top of the Rock is open 365 days a year, and offers views in both daylight and moonlight.

The area is also known for another type of entertainment as the home of the world famous Radio City Music Hall's Rockettes. The Rockettes perform shows on various dates throughout the year. Perhaps the most popular show of the year is the Rockettes' holiday performance, which packs the house for every performance.

Rockefeller Center is home to many other notable buildings as well. One Rockefeller Plaza (originally known as the Time-Life Building), 10 Rockefeller Plaza (the Eastern Airlines Buildings), 1240 Avenue of the Americas, the Bank of America Building, 1270 Avenue of the Americas (the RKO Building), and others all share a premier location in Rockefeller Center.

There are a number of lodging options close to the energy and excitement of Rockefeller Center. If you choose lodging in this premier area of New York City, you can select from among the Hilton New York, the Omni Berkshire Place Hotel, the Shoreham Hotel, and others.
